Finlay Donovan is killing it . . . except, she’s really not. She’s a stressed-out single-mom of two and struggling novelist, Finlay’s life is in chaos: the new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and this morning she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an incident with scissors.
When Finlay is overheard discussing the plot of her new suspense novel with her agent over lunch, she’s mistaken for a contract killer, and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet . . . Soon, Finlay discovers that crime in real life is a lot more difficult than its fictional counterpart, as she becomes tangled in a real-life murder investigation.
Thank you Minotaur Books for my copy of Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano in exchange for my honest review. This title publishes February 2, 2021.
Funny, fast-paced and intriguing; this book was just what I needed. When I first heard the premise, I was a bit hesitant because I lean more into dark thrillers and suspense, but after hearing literally everyone rave about it, I knew I had to see what all the hype was about. I am so glad I did. Finlay Donovan is Killing It has something for everyone – even us thriller/suspense fans. I don’t think I have laughed this much reading a book. The story is funny, witty and just so engaging.
This was a well-developed plot centred around a novelist and mother (Finlay Donovan) who is struggling to make ends meet when she finds herself in a situation where she is mistaken for a contract killer. WHAT?! I know I thought that too … but let me tell you THIS BOOK was brilliant.
I love Elle Cosimano’s writing – it’s fluid and will have you turning pages quickly to find out what will happen next! I think the author did an incredible job with the characters and gave readers a true heroine that everyone would root for. Finlay’s character was so real and relatable I think she will resonate well will all readers.
The tension builds throughout the story and does not lose momentum for a second. The main plot line and its sub plots start to connect and the mystery begins to slowly unravel in the final third of the book and leaves you with an ending that will have you shook! It has been confirmed for a series and I am already counting down to Book 2 (no pressure Elle LOL).
A fresh, witty, laugh-out-loud and feel good tale that will keep you entertained cover to cover. Finlay Donovan is Killing It was a refreshing take on the mystery/suspense genres and a really fun read that I think anyone will enjoy. I highly recommend adding this one to your reading list – no matter what genre you prefer!
