Goodnight Beautiful by Aimee Molloy

A handsome psychotherapist. His lonely wife. And in his home office ceiling, a vent …

You’d listen too, wouldn’t you? (You know you would.)

Newlyweds Sam Statler and Annie Potter are head over heels, and excited to say good-bye to New York City and start a life together in Sam’s sleepy hometown upstate. Or, it turns out, a life where Annie spends most of her time alone while Sam, her therapist husband, works long hours in his downstairs office, tending to the egos of his (mostly female) clientele. Little does Sam know that through a vent in his ceiling, every word of his sessions can be heard from the room upstairs. The pharmacist’s wife, contemplating a divorce. The well-known painter whose boyfriend doesn’t satisfy her in bed. Who could resist listening? Everything is fine until the French girl in the green mini Cooper shows up, and Sam decides to go to work and not come home, throwing a wrench into Sam and Annie’s happily ever after.

*****

Thank you Harper Books for my copy of Goodnight Beautiful by Aimee Molloy, in exchange for my honest review.  This title published October 13, 2020.

All the starts for this book!   I tore threw this one in a few hours.

A cleverly plotted and addictive plotline, Molloy sucked me in right from the first page.  Think:  Caroline Kepnes YOU meets Stephen King’s MISERY but in the best way possible.

Told from the POV of the most unreliable narrator I have ever read, the story follows a newly married couple, Sam and Annie, who are both  keeping their insecurities at bay from each other in order to maintain that perfect facade they each had when they first met.  They like to role play but what happens when their game plays perfectly into the hands of an obsessive “fan”, watching in the shadows?

You’ll have to pick this one up to find out!

This was definitely a psychological thriller like no other, and the plot twists – yes there were a few – will knock your socks off.  You will reach about a quarter way through and be completely thrown off track and then again at the halfway mark – literally gasped out loud.

The deception and twists in this story will have you turning pages faster than you think imaginable, not to mention keeping you up late to finish.

This was such a fun read and I urge you to pick up a copy ASAP and add to the buzz I am certain it will create this Fall.

I will be chatting with Aimee Molloy  on October 22, 2020 at 8pm ET on my Instagram Live, click here to tune in.
