Beth Murphy is on the run…
For nearly a year, Beth has been planning for this day. A day some people might call any other Wednesday, but Beth prefers to see it as her new beginning—one with a new look, new name and new city. Beth has given her plan significant thought, because one small slip and her violent husband will find her.
Sabine Hardison is missing…
A couple hundred miles away, Jeffrey returns home from a work trip to find his wife, Sabine, is missing. Wherever she is, she’s taken almost nothing with her. Her abandoned car is the only evidence the police have, and all signs point to foul play.
As the police search for leads, the case becomes more and more convoluted. Sabine’s carefully laid plans for her future indicate trouble at home, and a husband who would be better off with her gone. The detective on the case will stop at nothing to find out what happened and bring this missing woman home. Where is Sabine? And who is Beth? The only thing that’s certain is that someone is lying and the truth won’t stay buried for long.
Thank you, Harper Collins Canada for my copy of Dear Wife, in exchange for my honest review. This title releases June 25, 2019.
Think: Gone Girl meets Sleeping with the Enemy (you know the one with Julia Roberts?) … but better, WAY better. I won’t give anything away on plot as I think the synopsis above should give you enough to go on.
This was an incredibly intoxicating read – and before you roll your eyes and think “oh another one of THOSE stories” think again! This book had me hooked and at the edge of my seat cover to cover. It had that Gone Girl vibe, which immediately grabbed (and held) my interest, but Belle takes you on a detour you will not forget. Just when you think you know where the story is headed, you will be thrown a curve ball that will make your head spin! Her writing is captivating and she really knows how to build a cast of well-developed (and unlikable) characters.
Told from the POVs of Beth, Jeffrey and Marcus – for whom your initial impression will change dramatically by the end of the book and will legit make you shout “WTF” out loud several times. My heart was beating so quick during certain parts of the story I literally could not put this book down just so I could find out how it would all unfold. With an ending you won’t necessarily see coming, but will thoroughly enjoy, Belle keeps you on your toes page after page with this fresh take on suspense fiction.
I highly recommend you add this book to your TBR as soon as you can get your hands on a copy – it’s one thrill ride you won’t want to miss out on and I GUARANTEE this will be at the top of MANY hot summer reads list as soon as it enters the wild.
My Rating: 5/5
